HOMEWORK

 

        This year, the students will build upon the language arts skills that they have mastered in previous years.  Through many exciting activities, the students will learn the following:

ü The writing process – prewriting, editing skills, revision, research, citation, journals, persuasive essays, picture prompts

ü Grammar - usage and mechanics

ü Vocabulary – spelling, definition, part of speech 

ü Speaking and listening skills

ü Research skills

ü Critical thinking skills

 

            The variety of activities included in the curriculum:

ü Journal writing

ü Caught ‘Ya – editing skills, vocabulary

ü Writer’s Portfolio – various writing exercises

ü Public speaking exercises

ü  Listening activities – to teach note taking and organizational skills          

 

            Students are required to bring to class daily:

ü Black/blue pen or #2 pencil

ü Single subject notebook

ü Two pocket folder (to keep all papers intact)

ü Language Network textbook

ü Homework (due that day)

ü Agenda Book

 

            Organizational skills are very important and help you to be a successful student.  Please come to class with the required items, and this will help you to become organized and prepared to work.  If you do not have everything required of you, you will lose points for the day. 

            Homework is due on the due date only.   Please bring it to class; you will not be permitted to go back to your locker.  If you do not have it, you may turn it in (fully completed) one day late for half credit.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the assignment from me.  You will have as many days as you were absent to make up the assignment.

 

Grading:

100 – 92    A

  91 – 84    B

  83 – 77    C

  76 – 70    D

  69 – 0      F

 

Remember, the secret to success in seventh grade is:

            1.  Be responsible for your actions ~ follow school rules

            2.  Be polite towards others ~ respect is something you earn

3.      Be prepared to learn ~ preparation and participation are vital to learning
